Monday, November 30: Today we learned a little about the Salem Witch Trials. We then were introduced to what caused the French and Indian War. Lastly, students read Blood on the River. They should be through chapter 14 by next class.

We briefly reviewed the causes of the French and Indian War. Students then completed the French and Indian War Worksheet on W. 72. We then watched The War That Made America, Episode 1, answering the questions on W. 73-74 while watching, if absent, see Ms. Nay for an alternate assignment. With any time remaining, students read Blood on the River. Tuesday, November 24: Class began with the Colonization Unit Test. If absent, please come to a lab to make up. After the test, we read Blood on the River.
Due: Workbook, Current Event In Class: Unit Test Homework: none Monday, November 16: Class began with the 13 Colonies Map Test. Students were given a few minutes to review before taking the test If absent, come to a lab to make up the test. After the test, we went over the founding of the 13 original colonies (documents page, Founding of the 13 Colonies ppt) and completed W. 62-63. If absent, please download the powerpoint and complete the chart. Students then had the rest of class to type their final drafts of their colonies comparison essays. These are due next class.

If absent, find the doc on the documents page and transcribe into your workbook (W. 64-65). Come to a lab to go over the notes with Ms. Nay to explain them. We then completed the Colonial Economy assignment on W. 66-67 using the accompanying packet (if absent, find the packet on the documents page). Students then read Blood on the River. They should be completed with chapter 7 at least by the end of the class period. Due: None In Class: W. 70, Read BotR (Questions in Wed. post) Homework: Current Event, Study for Test, Workbook ready to turn in Tuesday, November 10: Class began by students getting back into their groups to complete the colonization simulation. Students were then introduced to the requirements for the Colonies Comparison Essay. The students are to pick two colonies (either Jamestown, Plymouth, or Roanoke) and write an essay comparing and contrasting them. The essay should be four paragraphs, with introduction, body paragraph on similarities, body paragraph on differences, and a concluding paragraph. Students began researching and pre-writing today. We then read to Chapter 6 in Blood on the River. Students answered the Discussion Questions for each chapter in their journal (if absent you may check out a novel for one night;discussion questions are available on documents page as botrstudyguide2).

We then learned about the different types of colonies by creating a foldable. If absent, find the Types of Colonies Powerpoint on the documents page and write down the information on a paper that you can paperclip into your workbook. We then read Blood on the River. A3 read through chapter 3, A4 read through chapter 2. As we read, we made a character list at the back of our journals. If you were absent, you may check out a novel for one night.
