Monday, May 18: Today we discussed Utah's contribution to the war effort in WW2 and rationing during WW2. We read textbook pages 242-246 and completed a Read Stop Write on p. 87 of the workbook. Students then completed p. 77-79 of the workbook, charting out the last two days, then highlighting anything that would have been affected by rationing (there is a list of some rationed items on p. 76). Lastly, we read more of Journey to Topaz.
In Class: p. 242-246 RSW, p. 77-79 workbook Homework: COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE DUE NEXT CLASS!!! Wednesday, May 20: Today's topics were rationing and the Navajo Code Talkers. First, students completed p. 80 in the workbook. We then discussed the Navajo Code Talkers, reading p. 250 in the workbook and completing our final Read Stop Write on p. 87 of the workbook. Students then had access to the declassified code and wrote their own code on p. 82 of the workbook. They traded it with a partner to try to decrypt each other's codes. Lastly, students completed p. 81 as a continuation of our study of the internment camp at Topaz. If time, we continued reading Journey to Topaz. Due: Community Experience In Class: p. 80-82 in workbook, P. 250 RSW Homework: Study for test, Workbook ready to turn in for final time Friday, May 22: To begin, students took the World War 2 Unit Test. They then began working on their ABC Books about Utah. There should be two letters represented on each page. Each page needs one picture. Each letter needs a word that relates to Utah Studies and that word used in a sentence. While students worked, Ms. Nay continued reading Journey to Topaz.
