Tuesday, May 19: Today we continued talking about the United States after the Civil War. As a class we read p. 91-92 of the workbook. Students were then given time to complete. p. 93 in the workbook. Students then took notes on p. 89-90 of the workbook, using the End of Reconstruction PowerPoint (on Docs page). We then began going over the DBQ Essay documents on p. 98-105 of the workbook.
Due: Current Event In Class: p. 91-93, 98-105 in workbook Homework: COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE DUE NEXT CLASS!!! Thursday, May 21: Today we discussed the Road to Civil Rights. As a class we read p. 94-95 of the workbook. Students were then given time to complete p. 96-97 of the workbook. Students had the rest of class to work on their DBQ Essays. If not finished in previous class, we finished reviewing the documents. Students then wrote their rough drafts of their essays. Due: Community Experience In Class: P. 94-96 of workbook, DBQ essay Homework: Finish any assignments in workbook unfinished Monday, May 11: Today we discussed the end of the Civil War. Students read excerpts from the diary of Carrie Berry (on Documents page) and completed p. 76 of the workbook. We discussed the burning of Atlanta and Sherman's march to the sea. Students then analyzed what to do if they continue fighting the war or if they choose to end the war (p. 77 in workbook). Lastly, we ended the war by discussing the Articles of Agreement and completing p. 79-80 in the workbook.
In Class: Workbook p. 76, 77, 79, 80 Wednesday, May 13: Students were given time at the beginning of class to finish the assignments in the workbook for the Civil War Unit (p. 76-80). Students then completed the Reconstruction Prompt on p. 82 of the workbook. Lastly, students reviewed for the Civil War test next class. To help do so, we read p. 83 in the workbook, and completed the notes on p. 87 of the workbook (using Reconstruction PowerPoint). Study the battles, strengths & weaknesses of North & South, and the documents we discussed. In class: p. 76-80, 82, 87 in workbook Homework: Make sure Civil War unit in workbook ready to turn in, Study for test Friday, May 15: Class began with the unit test on the Civil War. After the test, we discussed their responses to the Reconstruction Hook on p. 82. Students participated in another hook activity about Reconstruction. We then read p. 84 in the workbook as a class, on Civil War & Reconstruction. Students were then given time to complete the worksheet on p. 85-86 of the workbook. With remaining time, we completed the notes on p. 88 of the workbook (using Reconstruction PowerPoint). Due: Civil War Unit in Workbook In Class: Unit Test, p. 83-86, 88 in workbook Homework: Current Event Tuesday, May 5: Today students had some time to finish their battles maps on p. 68-69 in the workbook. The instruction packet is available on the Documents page. Students then completed p. 70 in the workbook as we went through a PowerPoint and read summaries of the main battles of the first half of the Civil War. If absent, research each battle on p. 70 to find out what happened. Record the chronological order, the winner, and why each battle was significant.

We continued the document analysis by reading the Emancipation Proclamation (p. 74 in workbook) and answering the questions on p. 75 of the workbook. We then discussed the major battles in the second half of the war, writing why each was significant and plotting them on the timeline (p. 78 in workbook). If absent, research these battles, write why they were significant, and plot them on the timeline.
