Tuesday, September 18: Today we took notes on the "3 G's of Exploration" on W. 17. If absent, see Ms. Nay or a peer for the notes. Ms. Nay then told the story of Christopher Columbus. If absent, it's recommended that you do a little research on Christopher Columbus' journey. Lastly, roles were assigned for the Columbus Trial, which will take place next week. Students are to read through the information for their assigned role. If absent, you will receive your role when you return.

Students wrote a DBQ paragraph based on the quote on this page. The question is: "According to Columbus, what was Hispaniola like?" Next, students played PIT, with the rules gradually changed to better understand the concept of mercantilism. They then met with others who researched the same tribe/region and created a simple poster to teach about it. They then continued labeling and coloring the physical features map on Ref B of the workbook (list of physical features to label on documents page).

If absent, check out a textbook from Ms. Nay to complete W. 10-11. We then discussed how to write a DBQ Paragraph. We looked at W. 9, analyzing the image as a class. We then went over the DBQ Paragraph Rubric on Ref D, discussing the expectation. Next, students wrote their own paragraph answering the following question and using the document on W. 9: "Based on the picture, how do we know the Aztec were an advanced civilization?" To end, students labeled the physical features map on Ref B, using the list found on the Documents page. The features must also be colored.
