Monday, January 26: Today students had the class period to create their sovereign state. This includes finishing the preparation packet and completing a poster about their state. These are due next class period.

We then discussed who rules in a country. We started with a mind map of types of governments and leaders. Then as a class we read the Who Rules document. Next we completed worksheet p. 1 as a class, and p. 2 individually. Then students participated in an Active Participation Activity to practice applying what they learned. We went through the reading document as a class, then completed the five limits on government graphic organizer together. Students then participated in an Active Participation Activity to apply what they learned. Students then made stop signs to display the five limits. Tuesday, January 20: Today students learned about capitalism, socialism, and communism and how the government interacts with the economy.
Thursday, January 22: Today students learned about that a 'state' is. Students created their own 'state'. Students read about Thomas Hobbes and John Locke and their philosophies about why we have government.
