Tuesday, May 21: Today we reviewed for the final and watched a video of the pictures from our field trip.

Students read W. 68-69 and answered the questions on W. 70. We then read J2T 13-14 and students were given a little time to work on their ABC books.

Due: Community Experience Friday, May 17: First we had a reading quiz. Today we finished reading Journey to Topaz. We discussed the book and then worked on ABC books. Students began making their actual books today. Students also received the study guide for the final. Due: None In Class: Reading quiz, ABC Book Homework: None - just remember field trip tomorrow! Tuesday, May 7: First students took a quiz on Journey to Topaz Chp. 1-8 (if absent, see Ms. Nay ASAP to take the quiz). We then discussed the causes of WW2 and the rise of the Nazi party. Next, students were given instructions for the ABC Book. They were given time to finish The New Deal worksheet started last class and then begin outlining their ABC books while Ms. Nay read Journey to Topaz 9-10.

We then read J2T 11-12. Students were given a little time to work on their ABC books. Students then started a documentary on Topaz and took 8 notes on W. 82.

Due: Current Event #2 In Class: None Homework: None Thursday, April 25: Students created a political cartoon on a current or historical issue. Students were then introduced to the novel we will be reading about the Japanese internment camp at Topaz. The novel is called Journey to Topaz (J2T). Books were checked out to the students, who are in charge of the care of the book until we finish it. We read the intro and chapters 1 & 2. If absent, please see Ms. Nay ASAP for a copy of the book so that you can get caught up. Due: None In Class: J2T Chp. 1-2, W. 75 Homework: Workbook up-to-date, Political Cartoon Monday, April 1: Students took some notes about checks and balances on W. 45 (if absent, see Ms. Nay or a peer for notes). They then worked on the Chapter 10 fill in the blanks on W. 48-50 (using old textbooks).

They were then introduced to the Progressive Era, watching some video clips to explain some of the reforms that took place during the era. Students completed W. 52-53 using T. 234-236). First, students took notes about WWI on W. 54-55 (if absent, find PowerPoint on Documents page). Next, we watched part 1 of War, Depression, War and answered questions 1-5 on W. 56 (if absent, come to a lab to watch the ten minute video clip). Finally, students took notes on W. 58-59 on propaganda during WWI and the purpose of political cartoons (PowerPoint on documents page). Students then used the old Utah textbooks to work on W. 47-50. They then went over the vocabulary on W. 37 and did the following on a separate piece of paper:
1. Write the word so you'll remember it 2. Use it in a sentence 3. Write a synonym 4. Write an antonym 5. Draw a small, simple picture to represent the word. Students then answered as many of the questions on W. 40 as they could.
