Wednesday, February 17: Today we learned about Hammurabi's Code, read some of the laws, and answered some questions about them.
In Class: Hammurabi's Code Friday, February 19: Students received their character profiles for the Mesopotamia simulation today. They met with their occupations and began their preparations for the simulation. In Class: Simulation Prep Monday, February 8: Students had the whole class period to work on their Epic of Gilgamesh comic strips.

They were then introduced to the other civilizations of Mesopotamia. They received a packet with information about each civilization. They completed a chart about those civilizations. They were then divided into groups and assigned a civilization to create a skit for. See the skit requirements page for more information (in the extras file box in the classroom). If absent, see Ms. Nay about an alternate assignment. Students had time to figure out what to do for their skits. If absent, see Ms. Nay. Due: Skits In Class: Participation points Homework: none Tuesday, February 2: Today we finished the Sumer PowerPoint and notes. We then discussed writing and how we use it in our daily lives today. We also discussed how pictographs could be used to convey ideas, but how difficult it is. Students created pictographs of sentences and tried to get their partner to guess what the pictograph meant. We saw the evolution of pictures turning into symbols which would be a form of writing. We also discovered that some background knowledge is required to understand a pictograph. We discussed the genesis of writing and the practiced writing cuneiform, translating English sentences into cuneiform.
