Tuesday, February 2: Today we finished the Sumer PowerPoint and notes. We then discussed writing and how we use it in our daily lives today. We also discussed how pictographs could be used to convey ideas, but how difficult it is. Students created pictographs of sentences and tried to get their partner to guess what the pictograph meant. We saw the evolution of pictures turning into symbols which would be a form of writing. We also discovered that some background knowledge is required to understand a pictograph. We discussed the genesis of writing and the practiced writing cuneiform, translating English sentences into cuneiform.
