Tuesday, September 5: Students met with others who researched the same tribe/region and created a simple poster to teach about it. They then began to label the physical features map on Ref B of the workbook (list of physical features to label on documents page).

If absent, check out a textbook from Ms. Nay to complete W. 10-11. We then discussed how to write a DBQ Paragraph. We looked at W. 9, analyzing the image as a class. We then went over the DBQ Paragraph Rubric on Ref D, discussing the expectation. Next, students wrote their own paragraph answering the following question and using the document on W. 9: "Based on the picture, how do we know the Aztec were an advanced civilization?" To end, students labeled the physical features map on Ref B, using the list found on the Documents page. The features must also be colored. Tuesday, August 29: Today we reviewed the notes on W. 3-6 on the ancient American civilizations. If absent, please review these notes or see the PowerPoints on the Documents page if you missed any of the notes.
Due: Current Event #1 In Class: W. 3-6 complete Homework: None Thursday, August 31: Today we discussed primary and secondary sources, practicing differentiating between the two. We also completed W. 7-9, learning what we can from images. Lastly, students were assigned a native North American region or tribe to research (W. 10-11). They used the textbook and internet to complete their row of information. If absent, see Ms. Nay to know which tribe to research. Due: None In Class: W. 7-9, Start W. 10-11 Homework: Research complete, Workbook ready to turn in, Current Event #3 Monday, August 21: First, we went over Ref A to make sure students understand the rules and procedures. Then, students completed an informal pretest activity. Next, students discussed how people could have gotten to the Americas. They analyzed evidence to come up with their own conclusions. We then learned about the evidence and what the evidence tells us. Students completed W. 2 as we went. The PowerPoint for the chart on W. 2 is available on the documents page. If not finished in class, we will finish this chart next class.
