Monday, September 29: Students were given a few minutes to review the physical features of the U.S. before taking the map test on them. If absent, please come after school to make up this test. After the test, students exchanged trading cards to complete the Explorer Spreadsheet on p. 32-33 in the workbook. Lastly, students were given time to answer the document questions for the DBQ. If finished early, they may begin writing their essay.

Students then reviewed for the test next class by participating in a review activity. When they were finished, students had time to work on their DBQ essays. At the end of class, we looked over the vocabulary words for the next unit and began labeling the counties map in the workbook. Tuesday, September 23: Class began with a reading quiz. Please see Ms. Nay after school to make up this quiz if you were absent. It was a quiz on Chapter 2 Section 4 of the textbook. Students then began working on their Explorer Trading Cards. If absent, see Ms. Nay for instructions.
In class: Began working on trading cards Homework: Study physical features map Thursday, September 25: First we reviewed the physical features of the United States in preparation for the map quiz next class period. Students were then introduced to the DBQ (Document Based Question) on p. 34-39 in the workbook. Then, as a class, students completed the Evaluating Sources activity on p. 30-31 in the workbook. Students then had time to work on their trading cards. If they finished, they began answering the questions about the documents on p. 34-39 for the DBQ. Homework: Study physical features map, Complete Trading Cards (two) Monday, September 15: Class began with a Vocabulary Quiz. If absent, please come to an after school lab to make this up. We then corrected the homework (p. 21 in the workbook). Finally, the class began to discuss and practice Latitude & Longitude.

Students first took notes in a foldable on Tools and Reasons for Exploration on p. 16 of their workbooks (see Documents page for PowerPoint). Students then filled in the blanks on p. 25-28 for the PowerPoint on Spain Builds an Empire (see Documents page for PowerPoint). Due: Current Event #3 In Class: P. 16, 25-28 in workbook Homework: Read textbook p. 51-55 (quiz next class) Friday, September 19: Class began with a reading quiz on section 2-3 of the textbook (p. 51-55). If absent, please come after school during a lab to make up the quiz. We then finished the Spain Builds and Empire PowerPoint and notes (see Documents page; notes p. 28-29 in workbook). Lastly, we discussed the Columbian Exchange, using the PowerPoint to assist in writing down on p. 29 of the workbook the different goods that originated in the Old World and the New World and were exchanged in the 1500s. In Class: Section Quiz 2-3 Homework: Read textbook p. 58-62 Tuesday, September 9: Students were given 10 minutes to review for the test. Students then took the unit test on the First Americans (if absent, please make up this test after school within one week. See Ms. Nay if you have questions). We then went over the Unit 2 vocabulary (found on page 15 of the workbook) as a class in preparation for the Vocabulary Quiz on Monday. Lastly, students began working on labeling and coloring their Physical Features of the U.S. Map (page 12 in workbook). Workbooks were turned in at the end of class.

This is a participation credit only, however if you were absent please see Ms. Nay after school to make up this pre-test. Students then learned about Pre-Columbian Europe and why the Age of Exploration occurred through videos, presentation, and class discussion. As a class, we read page 17 in workbook. With a partner, students read page 18 in workbook and answered questions 1-11 on page 21 of workbook. Wednesday, September 3: First we discussed current events that students found. Then students divided into groups to learn about one of five native north American tribes. These groups completed their portion of the chart on page 10 in the workbook and created a poster to teach the class. Each group then presented their poster as the rest of the class completed the chart.
