Tuesday, November 18: Students were given 10 minutes to review for the Colonization Test. Students then took the test. If absent, you must come after school during a lab to take this test. Please do so within one week. When students completed the test, they wrote their rough draft for the Colonies Comparison essay, which is due next Monday (must be typed).
Due: Workbook, all missing assignments In class: Colonies Comparison Essay Rough Draft Homework: Essay Final Draft Thursday, November 20: First we went over the vocabulary for Unit 4 (found in the workbook). We then discussed what Mercantilism is and why it was important during the colonial era, using p. 64-64 in the workbook. We then completed p. 66 in the workbook to check for understanding. Next we learned about the how trading worked at the time by participating in a trade activity (using p. 67-69 in workbook. If absent, see Ms. Nay for an alternate assignment). Lastly, we took some notes on colonial regions on p. 70 of the workbook (if absent, get notes from Ms. Nay or a friend). Students began their preparation by choosing two of the settlements to compare and completing a topic notes page for each one (p. 58-59). Resources are available on the Documents page. Having completed the research for their essay, students complete the compare and contrast chart graphic organizer on p. 60 of the workbook in preparation for their essay. As a class, we then go over the basic format of an essay. Student then outline their own essay on p. 61. Lastly, the class participates in a review activity in preparation for the test next class on colonization.
