Tuesday, January 20: Today students participated in Episode 3 of the Simulation: Declaring Independence. Students read the Declaration of Independence and then worked on p. 7 of the workbook. Students then competed an assignment deciding if a certain character would be Loyalist or Patriot, and which one would turn spy (if absent, this assignment is available on the documents page).

Students then created their own mini soldier for either a Loyalist or Patriot, depending on which side they have ended up on at this point. They then participated in a simulation of Valley Forge. Students introduced their characters with some background and a visual representation. Students then received their new workbooks for semester 2 and completed the Beginning of the Revolution assignment on pages 2-3, using the accompanying packet. Wednesday, December 10: First students finished watching the first episode of The War That Made America, completing the accompanying information (if absent, read p. 116-119 in the textbook and complete the section assessment on p. 119). Students then read a poem about the French and Indian War, discussing it as a class. Next, with a partner, students completed the French and Indian War map worksheet on p. 84 of the workbook. We then read the summaries for episodes 2 and 3 of The War That Made America. If time, students began watching episode four of The War That Made America. Due: Workbook (Unit 4), Current Event #4 In Class: Episode 1 Video Guide (turned in), p. 84 in workbook Friday, December 12: Students watched episode four of The War That Made America and completed a video guide (if absent, read p. 121-125 in the textbook and complete the section assessment on p. 125). The essay questions are extra credit, to be answered on a separate piece of paper, one paragraph each.

Next we learned about the how trading worked at the time by participating in a trade activity (using p. 67-69 in workbook. If absent, see Ms. Nay for an alternate assignment). Lastly, we took some notes on colonial regions on p. 70 of the workbook (if absent, get notes from Ms. Nay or a friend). Lastly, the class participates in a review activity in preparation for the test next class on colonization.
