Students were required to pick a character that they would like to interview and to help. Then then had to find passages in the book describing that character. If absent, choose a character and find at least three passages from the book that describe the character. You may check out a novel to do so. Next, students rejoined their groups to work on the BotR project. Students come up with some interview questions for the character they have chosen and give the answers they think the character would give. The next step is Define. Students have to define a problem that the character has that needs a solution. Tuesday, December 1: Today we learned a little about the Salem Witch Trials. We then were introduced to what caused the French and Indian War. Lastly, students read Blood on the River. They should be through chapter 14 by next class.

Students were then introduced to the requirements for the Colonies Comparison Essay. The students are to pick two colonies (either Jamestown, Plymouth, or Roanoke) and write an essay comparing and contrasting them. The essay should be four paragraphs, with introduction, body paragraph on similarities, body paragraph on differences, and a concluding paragraph. Students began researching and pre-writing today. We then read to Chapter 6 in Blood on the River. Students answered the Discussion Questions for each chapter in their journal (if absent you may check out a novel for one night;discussion questions are available on documents page as botrstudyguide2). They completed W. 57 by choosing a song for the following events/people: -The Virginia Company and Setting Sail -Arrival at Jamestown -The Gentlemen -The Indentured Servants -The Starving Time -The Arrival of Women -Success! The class then voted on their favorite songs, which will then be turned into a "movie". Students were then introduced to the novel we will be reading, Blood on the River. We read the introduction and Chapter 1. Students created a journal with which they will chart the characters and plot and their thoughts as we read the novel. We reviewed the different explorers and their discoveries, as well as the events that led to the Age of Exploration. The next part of class was for students to begin working on their DBQ Essay. If absent, come to a lab to make up or make an appointment. Students then took notes on Tools and Reasons for Exploration (if absent, see PowerPoint on Documents page and take notes on W. 27). Next students heard about the voyages of Christopher Columbus. We then discussed some of the other explorers and what they accomplished. To do so, we highlighted their names on W. 28-31. Students then had time to work on their homework, which was to read W. 30-31 and complete W. 32-33.
