We also completed W. 7-9, learning what we can from images. Lastly, students were assigned a native North American region or tribe to research (W. 10-11). They used the textbook and internet to complete their row of information. If absent, see Ms. Nay to know which tribe to research. Tuesday, August 22: First we finished the Migration Chart on W. 2. If absent, the PowerPoint can be found on the US History Documents Page. Next, we learned about Latitude and Longitude, completing W. 12. If time, students began labeling the physical features map on Ref B in the workbook.
Due: Current Event #1 In Class: W. 2, W. 12 Homework: None Thursday, August 24: Students went on a scavenger hunt, practicing latitude and longitude, to complete W. 3-6. We then went over those pages in class. Due: None In Class: W. 3-6 Homework: None Tuesday, August 15: Welcome to 8th grade US History! Today we got to know each other with an icebreaker activity. We then went over some of the rules and procedures for this class. Students received the disclosure statement if this was not picked up at Back to School Night. The signed disclosure page is due Friday.
In Class: Rules & Procedures Homework: Disclosure signed (due Friday) Wednesday, August 16: Today we learned how to complete the current event assignment. Students read an article and we discussed how to use it on the current events assignment. Students also practiced matching news headlines to topics we will study this year. Next, we finished discussing rules and procedures. Students received their workbooks and started working on the very first page (Ref A). If absent, see Ms. Nay to pick up your workbook. Due: None In Class: Rules, Procedures, and Expectations Guide (Ref A in workbook) Homework: Disclosure signed Friday, August 18: First, we went over Ref A to make sure students understand the rules and procedures. Then, students completed an informal pretest activity. Next, students discussed how people could have gotten to the Americas. They analyzed evidence to come up with their own conclusions. We then learned about the evidence and what the evidence tells us. Students completed W. 2 as we went. The PowerPoint for the chart on W. 2 is available on the documents page.
