Tuesday, August 25: Class began by finishing the PowerPoint and notes about the Maya (W. 3-4, if absent, PowerPoint is on Documents page as 'Ancient Maya'). Students then worked with a partner to figure out the 'Maya Mysteries' (W. 8-10). Next we read about the Maya as a class, textbook p. 22-24. With any remaining time, we began the Aztec informational PowerPoint (available on Documents page).

We then completed the Primary Source Analysis (W. 11-12). First, we discussed the documents. Then, students answered the questions in complete sentences. Lastly, on a separate piece of paper, students turned their answers into a paragraph about the first document (W. 11). We practiced how to write an appropriate Document Based paragraph and how/when to refer to the document in a citation. Students will complete their second paragraph at home (based on W. 12 document). Tuesday, August 18: Welcome back to school! Today we did a get to know you activity. Students then received the disclosure and we reviewed class rules, procedures, and expectations. Your homework is to read the disclosure with a parent and have both of you sign it and return it. Were you absent? If so, you can download your own copy of the disclosure. Please read it!
Homework: Get Disclosure Signed (due August 21) Wednesday, August 19: Today we went back over the class rules, procedures, and expectations. Students then took a brief pre-test on Early Americans. While doing so, they received their textbooks and workbooks. These need to be covered by August 25th. Students then learned about Human Migration, using the PowerPoint and presentation from Ms. Nay to complete p. 2 in the workbook. If absent, see Ms. Nay for your workbook and textbook. In Class: Pre-Test (lab) Homework: Get Disclosure Signed Friday, August 21: First, we reviewed how to do a current event. Next we finished learning about human migration to the Americas (W.2) (if absent, get PowerPoint from Documents page). We then learned about one of the most ancient cultures in the Americas: the Maya. As a class we did the True/False Anticipation Activity (W.3).
