Tuesday, August 26: Students received their workbooks for the semester. We then discussed a current event as an example of what can be done for the current event assignment. We then went through the Inca PowerPoint and completed the First Americans Study Guide. Next we started watching a video about the Incans, completing the accompanying video guide.
Due: Current Event #1 In Class: Finished First Americans study guide Homework: Primary Source Analysis (p. 7-8 in workbook) Thursday, August 28: Students finished watching the Inca video and completed the Video Guide. Students then wrote a narrative essay answering a prompt of their choice. If students finished early, they worked on labeling and coloring their physical features of the United States map. Monday, August 18: We started our class period by reviewing the homework, then voting on the positive and negative consequences for the rules of our class. We then visited four different stations to learn a little about the Maya. Each station had a small assignment to complete. We then started the Maya Study Guide, to be finished next class period.
Due: Human Migration Chart In Class: Maya Mysteries - Water Management, Map, Temple in Tikal, & Number System Homework: none Wednesday, August 20: First we finished the Maya PowerPoint with accompanying Study Guide. We then watched the Maya video and completed the accompanying Video Guide. During the video, students received their textbooks. These must be covered no later than class on August 26 (next Tuesday). If you were absent for the film, see Ms. Nay to check out a textbook and receive the make-up assignment! Homework: Read and sign disclosure Thursday, August 14: We reviewed the classroom procedures and the disclosure statement. We then took a pre-test for Unit 1 (First Americans). If you were absent, please make arrangements with Ms. Nay to take this pre-test. After the pre-test we began talking about the very first human migration to the American Continent. We discussed the land bridge and Clovis theory. Students then began working on the human migration chart, which can be found on the documents page with it's accompanying text (The Mystery of the First Americans).
