Tuesday, August 16: Welcome to 8th Grade U.S. History! This is where you will look to find out what we did in class each day, in case you were absent or just in case you forgot. Today we started class with an ice-breaker activity, where we got to know some of our classmates just a little better. Then we discussed the disclosure document and took a tour of the room. Students received a disclosure today if they didn't get one at Back to School Night. That disclosure is due Friday.
Due: none In Class: Disclosure discussion Homework: Disclosure signed by parent and student - due Friday Wednesday, August 17: Today we practiced completing the 8th grade current event assignment. These are due every time a class falls on Tuesday, but this first practice one counts for the first current event. We read an article about different rules for vaccinations in the states, and then completed the worksheet. If absent, please pick up a current event worksheet from Ms. Nay or download one from the documents page and complete the assignment. Remember: the article MUST connect to what we are currently studying in US History. Next, we discussed the community experience assignment and what is expected. Then students took a pre-test for our first unit. Lastly, we briefly reviewed the rules for the class. Due: none In Class: First Current Event, Unit 1 Pre-test Homework: Disclosure due next class; Textbook covered by Tuesday Friday, August 19: Today we discussed Human Migration to the Americas. With their tables, students analyzed evidence of ancient people in the Americas and developed a theory about how and when the first people arrived in America. They then presented their theories to the class. We then discussed the evidence further, completing W. 2 using the Human Migration PowerPoint (See the documents page if you were absent to complete the chart on W. 2). Due: Disclosure In Class: Human Migration Chart (W. 2) Homework: Textbook covered, read T. 16-21
