Monday, September 19: We finished the Pre-Columbian Europe PowerPoint and notes on W. 22. If absent, see the PowerPoint on the Documents page to fill in the rest of the information and complete W. 22. Today we discussed latitude and longitude, practicing it using W. 25-26 and a map of the world. We then discussed how to write a DBQ Paragraph, and students received the scores from their first try at writing one. These may be re-done for a higher score. We read the information on W. 23 and completed W. 24. Students wrote a paragraph using the images on W. 24 to answer the following question in a DBQ Paragraph: What do these maps tell us about European understanding of the world at the time? If there was any time left, we started discussing latitude and longitude.

We then learned about European reasons for exploration (the 3 G's) and took notes on W. 27 (see PowerPoint on Documents page). We then started our Explorer Experience with each table choosing a captain to sail on an expedition with. Lastly, Ms. Nay told the story of Christopher Columbus' expedition. Due: Map DBQ Paragraph In Class: W. 27, 28 Homework: Finish W. 28 Friday, September 23: Students completed the first leg of their Explorer Experience, recording the events on W. 28. If absent, see Ms. Nay for the experience information. Students were then assigned roles and given some research as we prepare for a trial of Christopher Columbus (if absent, see Ms. Nay for the information for both activities today).
