Monday, September 21: Today we took the physical features of the U.S. map test. If absent, come to a lab to make up or make an appointment. Students then took notes on Tools and Reasons for Exploration (if absent, see PowerPoint on Documents page and take notes on W. 27). Next students heard about the voyages of Christopher Columbus. We then discussed some of the other explorers and what they accomplished. To do so, we highlighted their names on W. 28-31. Students then had time to work on their homework, which was to read W. 30-31 and complete W. 32-33.

Students completed W. 34 with a partner. We then learned about how Spain built an empire in the New World, using a PowerPoint to complete W. 35-39 (if absent, see Spain Builds an Empire Powerpoint on Documents page). Students recorded items that originated in the New and Old Worlds on W. 39 (if absent, see the PowerPoint on the Documents page or a peer for the notes). Then, using Explorer Trading Cards, students completed the chart of other European Explorers on W. 40-41 (if absent, see Ms. Nay for further instructions).
