Monday, January 30: Today students read T. 186-187 & 174-175, writing a summary on W. 3 and writing 2 quiz style questions for both mining and railroad towns on that page as well. They then asked each other their questions, quizzing one another. Next, students worked on their Mission to Mars. If time, they started on the brochure part of their project.

Tuesday, January 24: Today we discussed the features of Utah settlements. We read T. 128 and completed the top half of W. 3 using the textbook page. We discussed how the grid system works. Students then participated in an activity to review the grid system. Next, students completed W. 20-21. If they finish with some time left, they complete W. 19.

They then read an article about one of Utah's colleges, and wrote a summary about that college (2nd period only; 4th period had science fair). We continued our Mission to Mars project, today learning about the food of the nineteenth century pioneers and then thinking about our modern pioneers. We completed W. 11-12. We then participated in some pioneer activities.

Next we completed the chart on the top of W. 2 (in the new workbook). Ms. Nay then introduced the Mission to Mars project we will be working on as we discuss the settlement of Utah. Due: None In Class: Unit Test Homework: None Friday, January 13: We learned about the problems with settling in Utah. We used T. 126 as well as information from Ms. Nay to complete W. 2. If absent, see Ms. Nay or a friend for the information. We then discussed more modern attempts at settlement, meaning the settlement of Mars. We read W. 4 to explain the project. Students then started the Travel portion of the Mission to Mars (M2M) project. With a clock partner, they read W. 5. They then answered the questions on W. 6-7, using complete sentences and using the space provided to give detailed answers. We will continue working on this next week.
