Tuesday, January 27: Today we discussed the problems with settlement the early pioneers faced. We read the side bar on p. 106 of the textbook and completed the second half of p. 2 in the workbook. We then discussed how the pioneers actually got to Utah and what they wore at that time, reading p. 5 and 8 in the workbook. Lastly, students were given time to work on Travel and Clothing parts of their Mission to Mars project.

Wednesday, January 21: Today we finished the pioneer simulation. Students turned in their simulation packets. With extra time, we reviewed for the Migration Quiz next class.
Turned in: Simulation Packet Homework: Study for Quiz Friday, January 23: Class began with a quiz on Mormon migration to Utah. Students then received their new workbooks (if absent, please see Ms. Nay to pick one up). Students then read p. 101-103 in the textbook as a class and completed the first half of p. 2 in the new workbook. Next, students were introduced to the Mission to Mars project for this unit. The instructions are on p. 4 of the new workbook. Students were able to start the first section of the M2M project, Travel, on p. 5-7 in the new workbook. Students rejoined their wagon companies and packed their wagons for the trip. After much preparation, they were ready to leave Independence, Missouri. Students then completed Episode 1 of the simulation, traveling to Fort Kearney. If absent, you must get filled in by your group about the preparations and events that befell your company on the journey thus far, and then write about them in your diary.
