Monday, August 29: Today we reviewed the first theme of geography, location. With a clock partner, students used an official highway map of Utah to complete W. 4 (Places in Utah). If absent, see Ms. Nay to borrow a map to complete the assignment. Next, we reviewed the second theme of geography: place. After our discussion of what place is (describing a location) students labeled and colored the physical feature maps of Utah on W. 6-7, using T. 25.

To review, we viewed a Powerpoint on region (found on documents page). We labeled the three regions on our mountains map on W. 6 (if absent, view them in the Powerpoint). Next Ms. Nay told the "Counties Soap Opera" story as students labeled the names of the counties on W. 5. Students then colored their maps and practiced remembering the counties. If absent, please use T. 313 to label the counties map. Color each county. Due: W. 6-7 In Class: W. 5 Homework: W. 5 (if not finished in class) Friday, September 2: In class today students worked on the Chapter 1 Study Guide (W. 11-14). If not finished in class, it is homework. We also reviewed the maps of the counties, mountains, rivers, and lakes to make sure that everything was labeled properly. Tuesday, August 23: Class began with a Compare and Contrast Pre-Test. If absent, please come to a lab ASAP to make this up. During this time Ms. Nay checked that textbooks were covered. We then introduced our geography unit and talked about the 5 Themes of Geography. We completed W. 2 with our discussion. If absent, see Ms. Nay or a peer for the notes. Please see Ms. Nay if you are confused about the 5 Themes of Geography. In any remaining time, students were able to start their homework, the 5 Themes Practice on W. 3. Graded papers were passed out as they worked.

This is where you will look to find out what we did in class each day, in case you were absent or just in case you forgot. Today we started class with an ice-breaker activity, where we got to know some of our classmates just a little better. Then we discussed the disclosure document and took a tour of the room. Students received a disclosure today if they didn't get one at Back to School Night. That disclosure is due Friday.

If absent, please see Ms. Nay to get your workbook. These must be brought to class every day. We finished our discussion of the classroom rules and procedures (the information on the disclosure statement). To review some of the information, students worked with their table to complete Reference page A in their workbook (the very first page). Students also had a textbook checked out to them. If absent, please see Ms. Nay for your textbook. We explored the workbook and the textbook to see some of the things we will be learning this year. Lastly, students were given the assignment "How Well Do You Know Utah?" The goal is to find as many answers as you can using what you know, your family, or even the internet.
