Monday, May 18: Today we discussed Utah's contribution to the war effort in WW2 and rationing during WW2. We read textbook pages 242-246 and completed a Read Stop Write on p. 87 of the workbook. Students then completed p. 77-79 of the workbook, charting out the last two days, then highlighting anything that would have been affected by rationing (there is a list of some rationed items on p. 76). Lastly, we read more of Journey to Topaz.
In Class: p. 242-246 RSW, p. 77-79 workbook Homework: COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE DUE NEXT CLASS!!! Wednesday, May 20: Today's topics were rationing and the Navajo Code Talkers. First, students completed p. 80 in the workbook. We then discussed the Navajo Code Talkers, reading p. 250 in the workbook and completing our final Read Stop Write on p. 87 of the workbook. Students then had access to the declassified code and wrote their own code on p. 82 of the workbook. They traded it with a partner to try to decrypt each other's codes. Lastly, students completed p. 81 as a continuation of our study of the internment camp at Topaz. If time, we continued reading Journey to Topaz. Due: Community Experience In Class: p. 80-82 in workbook, P. 250 RSW Homework: Study for test, Workbook ready to turn in for final time Friday, May 22: To begin, students took the World War 2 Unit Test. They then began working on their ABC Books about Utah. There should be two letters represented on each page. Each page needs one picture. Each letter needs a word that relates to Utah Studies and that word used in a sentence. While students worked, Ms. Nay continued reading Journey to Topaz. Students then watched "Salt Lake in the 40s" and took notes on p. 92-93 in the workbook. We then read more of Journey to Topaz. If absent, come to a lab to watch the video or bring a flash drive to get a copy to watch at home.

We then learned about Utah's contribution to the war, watching some video clips. We also read p. 239-241 in the textbook and completed a Read, Stop, Write. We then read more of Journey to Topaz. In Class: P. 239-241 RSW Monday, May 4: Today we started by watching 25 minutes of "Utah in the 30s" and took notes on p. 90-91 in the workbook. If absent, come to a lab to view the video or bring a flash drive to get a copy. Students then completed p. 67 in the workbook, about the New Deal, using the textbook (chapter 12). With any remaining time, students began working on their fill in the blanks on p. 68-71.

They were then given 20 minutes to work on the fill in the blanks on p. 68-71 in the workbook. Students then went through the Rise of the Nazi Party PowerPoint as a class. Due: p. 67-68 in workbook In class: Questions on p. 56-57 in workbook for Great Depression Homework: Finish Great Depression assignments in workbook, study for test Friday, May 8: Students took the test on the Progressive Era, World War I, Roaring 20s, and Great Depression. We then discussed how World War 2 started and how America got involved. Students were then introduced to the Topaz internment camp, reading p. 247-249 in the textbook and completing a Read Stop Write, and we began reading Journey to Topaz.
