They wrote their tall tale on W. 58. Students were then introduced to the Mountain Man Facebook Project (see W. 60). They were assigned their mountain man to research and began to complete the research chart on W. 61-62. The research part should be completed by the end of next class. Tuesday, November 24: Today we learned some mountain man slang. We then read T. 73 and did a RSW. Next, we learned about the rendezvous according to Beckwourth (W. 55). We also did some mountain man math (W. 54). Students then compared their own life to the life of a trapper (W. 50). Lastly, we learned about tall tales, what they are, and heard some tall tales (read W. 56-57). If time, students began writing their own tall tales.

Students were given some background knowledge about the mountain men. Students then completed an application to become a mountain man (W. 49). Next we read T. 72 and completed a read stop write on W. 73. Lastly, students created their own advertisement to recruit mountain men (see W. 59 activity #1 for instructions). These are due next class. We then watched the last episode of We Shall Remain (Navajo), completing the accompanying video guide in the workbook (if absent, try to answer the questions using what you know and the internet, or come to a lab to view the episode). We then talked about the difference between primary and secondary sources and practiced analyzing a primary source. Lastly, students worked on the review questions on W. 42-43.
