Monday, March 23: Class started with a brief review of Utah's struggles for statehood. Students then took a quiz. If absent, please come to a lab to make up the quiz. Students then made a foldable for p. 44 in their workbooks and we began talking about the three branches of government. We discussed the three branches in the federal government. If absent, please see Ms. Nay or a peer for the notes.

Students then did the Rights and Obligations assignment on p. 46 of the workbook, using p. 191 in the textbook to help. In any time left, students worked on p. 47-50 in the workbook. Tuesday, March 17: We began with reading p. 168-172 in the textbook as a class. Students then completed one Read Stop Write. They then took notes on the Struggle for Statehood on p. 38 of the workbook. Students then worked with a partner to answer the questions on p. 40 of the workbook (using complete sentences), using the textbook to find the answers.
Due: Current Event In Class: RSW p. 168-172, Struggle for Statehood Notes, Chp. 9 Questions Thursday, March 19: We began with reading p. 173-175 in the textbook as a class. Students then completed one Read Stop Write. They then took notes on the Utah War on p. 39 of the workbook. Lastly, if time, students answered the questions on p. 40 of the workbook, using the textbook to find the answers and writing using complete sentences. In Class: RSW p. 173-175, Utah War Notes, Chp. 9 Questions Homework: Finish p. 40 in workbook if not finished in class Monday, March 9: Students were given time to work on the final drafts of their newspapers, which are due next class. We then reviewed for the text next class.
Homework: Study for test, Workbook ready to turn in, Final Draft of Newspaper Wednesday, March 11: Class began with the test on Chapter 8, including vocabulary. Students then shared their newspapers with each other. Lastly, they did the Thomas Kearns Interactive online (http://www.utahheritagefoundation.org/kearnsgame/index.html). Due: Workbook, Newspaper In Class: Chp. 8 Test Friday, March 13: First students did a Read Stop Write with textbook p. 166-168. Students then completed foldable notes with a Prezi presentation of Utah's Struggle for Statehood. If absent, see Ms. Nay or a peer for the notes. In Class: Foldable notes p. 38 workbook Homework: Current Event Tuesday, March 3: Today we finished going over the Chapter 8 Prezi and taking foldable notes (if absent, see Ms. Nay or a friend for the notes). Students then took those notes and created two pictures for each topic. These pictures were drawn on p. 33 of the workbook. We then read and discussed p. 34 of the textbook, "Mark Twain on Polygamy."
