Monday, September 17: We went over the vocabulary on W. 15, drawing a simple picture for each word. Students then had the class period to work on their 5 Themes Project (due next class).

We then discussed the geologic eras found on T. 26-28. Students then created a poster for one of the geologic eras. If absent, choose one era and create a simple poster on a regular sized piece of paper and include the name of the era, information, and two pictures (drawn or printed). Due: 5 Themes Project In Class: W. 16, Geologic Era Poster Homework: None Friday, September 21: As a class we read T. 30 and completed a Read Stop Write (found on W. 64 - only complete one of the three sections on the page). Students then began working on the Chapter 2 Study Guide (W. 18-21) using chapter 2 in the textbook. This is not expected to be completed today. The goal is that students will complete W. 18-19. Next, students took their second attempt at the counties quiz. Then we reviewed for the test next class on the 5 themes of geography and Utah's physical features. Lastly, students had time to work on their projects.

Next, we finished the Chapter One Study Guide (W. 12). Then students worked on labeling and coloring the maps on W. 5-7. Lastly, students were introduced to the project options for the 5 Themes Project (due Sep. 19). We will begin working on these next class.

Students must get 100% (including spelling) and have multiple tries to do so. We then learned about the Rain Shadow Effect, completing W. 8. If absent, see T. 21 for an explanation and the diagram to draw on W. 8. Students then selected their 5 Themes Project and started working on it. They received the instructions for their individual project today. Students completed W. 4 (Places in Utah) with a partner, answering the riddles by using the coordinates to find a location on the map. If absent, see Ms. Nay to borrow a map to complete the page. Students also read T. 7-8 with their partner, completing the top portion of W. 10 (stopping at Utah's Land Regions).

Students completed W. 10 and the first half of W. 11 with their partner, using the textbook. Next, students labeled their counties maps on W. 5 as Ms. Nay told them a story to help remember the county names. If absent, please find a map of Utah and label the names of the counties on W. 5. If time, students worked on labeling the mountains, rivers, and lakes on W. 6-7, or coloring their maps. Lastly, students had time to work on the 5 Themes Practice on W. 3.

Next, we discussed latitude and longitude, and how it works. Students practiced finding locations on a map. Lastly, we reviewed relative location. Due: 5 Themes Practice (W. 3) In Class: W. 9 (using T. 3-9) Homework: None Tuesday, August 14: Welcome to 7th grade Utah Studies! Today we got to know each other with an icebreaker activity. We then went over some of the rules and procedures for this class. Students received the disclosure statement if this was not picked up at Back to School Night. The signed disclosure page is due Friday.
In Class: Rules & Procedures Homework: Disclosure signed (due Friday) Wednesday, August 15: Today we finished going over rules and procedures. Students received their red class workbook today. Students answered as many of the questions on the very first page of the red workbook as they could. We will go over the rest of them on Friday. Students then completed partner sign ups. Students are allowed to use their textbooks, friends, parents, and the internet to complete as many questions as they can. We then discussed the Navajo Code Talkers and students wrote their own codes. Lastly, we learned about Utah today and students created their own puzzle, game, or advertisement for contemporary Utah.
Monday, May 21: Today was a review day for the final. Students also had a little time to work on their ABC books.
