Monday, November 17: Students were introduced to the Mountain Men era of Utah's history. Students completed an application to be a mountain man on p. 48 of the workbook. Then, as a class, we read p. 49 of the workbook and completed the page. Next, we read p. 50 as a class. Students then started to create an advertisement to recruit mountain men to join the company and go trap out west. The poster is on a simple piece of printer paper and must include the following: a catch phrase, information on a typical day, and a picture. Also, students are to write a paragraph on a separate piece of paper explaining why they put the things they put on their poster.
In class: p. 48-49 in workbook, started working on advertisement (due Friday) Wednesday, November 19: Today students took notes on Famous Mountain Men on p. 51 of the workbook as we went through a PowerPoint on them (if absent, see a friend or Ms. Nay for the notes). Students then completed the Mountain Man review on p. 52-53 of the workbook. In the remaining time, students worked on their advertisement, which is due next class. In Class: p. 51-53 in workbook Homework: Advertisement, Study for Vocab Quiz next class Friday, November 21: Class began with a vocab quiz. Then we did some Mountain Man Math on p. 54 of the workbook. We then discussed the Rendezvous, completing p. 55 as we discussed. Next, the introduction to Tall Tales began with a discussion of fact vs. opinion, using p. 56. We read some tall tales together on p. 57-58. Then students were given a chance to write their own tall tales on p. 59. Due: Advertisement In class: p. 54-59 (p. 59 will have time to work on next class) Homework: Current Event #3
