Monday, August 18: First we corrected the 'How Well Do You Know Utah' worksheet. If students got 100% they received a late work pass. Next we reviewed some of our classroom procedures. Then we started our Geography Unit, discussing how Geography is like a stage and History is the play that happens on the stage. We then had an overview of the 5 Themes of Geography. We will go more in depth on these in the coming days. There was some time at the end to work on the homework assignment: '5 Themes Practice'.
Due: How Well Do You Know Utah? Homework: 5 Themes Practice Worksheet Wednesday, August 20: Class started with correcting the homework from last class and turning it in. We then created our partner clocks. Next was a review of the difference between absolute and relative location. To practice reading a map, students got with their 8 o'clock partner to answer riddles about locations in Utah using the given coordinates. Next we went over the vocabulary words for the Geography Unit and started creating word-art for five of those words. The words must be colored and include the definition. *See the Documents page for the words and definitions.* Due: 5 Themes Practice Worksheet In Class: Places in Utah Homework: Geography Vocab Word-Art (5 words & definitions) Friday, August 22: As a class we went over the Chp. 1 PowerPoint. Then students worked with their four o'clock partner to complete the Chp. 1 Study Guide using the textbooks in class. These Study Guides will be kept to refer to throughout the unit.
